Pupil Leadership
St James CE Primary School has a very busy School Council with class members from across the setting who have been elected democratically to represent the views of the class at regular meetings.
The Council meets regularly to complete projects created by them which address the views of the pupil body and work towards whole school improvement priorities.
Some of the examples of the types of teams are:
Charity: responsible for selecting and supporting charity events across the school. Every year, they select a local, national and international charity to support as well as organise events to support these worthy causes. We currently support Children In Need, Herford Food Bank and The Teddy Bear Trust in Leominster, who support children in war-torn countries.
As well as a School Council, the older children have the opportunity to join (via application) the school Pupil Leadership teams. Each one of the teams has a manager to ensure roles are fulfilled each day and who is responsible for the rotas.
Currently we have a number of Pupil Leadership teams. These are:
Worship Crew: Children Lead, Plan and run collective worship. Children recieve specific training for this role. They start of by supporting in Collective Worship in the Autumn to running them on their own by the Summer term.
Eco Warriors: involved with all aspects of energy conservation and the presentation of a healthy environment.
Digital Leaders help run computing clubs for pupils in the school. They can also help out in computing lessons. They go to various training days run by Hereford Council.
Play leaders: who organise games in a dedicated zone on the play-ground. They also support Lunch Time Supervisors with various tasks and help children who are feeling lonely.
Tech Team: organising the stage, music, lights, microphones and props for our many shows and Collective Worship.
Pupil Leadership Scheme: When children are in year 5 theyhave the opportunity to part in the Young Leaders Award organised through through the Youth Trust by Archbishop of York.
Curriclulm Leadership Group: Various pupils are chosen from all year groups to be part of this important pannel. They dicuss all aspects of the curriculum with Mrs Matli. Their feedback and input leads to curriculum change and is shared with the School Governors.
