Music and The Arts
We believe that performance is essential in building confidence and self-esteem in our children and for this reason every child in the school from Reception to Year 6 will have a part in a performance every year. With this in mind, and a stage and church allowing for larger audiences and excellent audio equipment, our children are able to grow in confidence, pride, develop teamwork and revel in the joy of performance. Performances can take the form of a nativity, plays, musicals, dance shows, instrument renditions and concerts.
Whole class tuition takes place in Years 4 and 5, with the children having the opportunity to play percussion instruments in year 5 and a round-robin of other instruments in year 4. It is also possible to pay for lessons with our visiting teachers currently for guitar, keyboard, clarinet and drums and we can arrange private tuition for other instruments upon request.
An exciting singing worship takes place each week with some live music as well as the chance to listen to music from all cultures. The school is also proud to have a large sing for fun group who regularly perform in the local community for charitable events, such as at care homes and singing in High Town at Christmas time. The school take part in the annual Hereford Performing Arts Festival, where we sing a range of Hymns learned at school. St James also holds a biannual iSINGPOP Concert where the whole school performs a range of Christian pop songs to a large audience of parents and family members. We previously filled Hereford Cathedral for one amazing night and were featured in the Hereford Times. The next performance is going to be at the Courtyard Theatre.
